New US Immigration Reform to benefit the US Economy
There may be new information about US visa as American Senator Marco Rubio has stated that international professionals holding top tech jobs and other related talent may be attracted to remain in the US only if there is some immigration reform in the country.
At Washington’s Chamber of Commerce where academics gathered, it was revealed by the Senator that many American graduates are moving elsewhere to practice their expertise and begin their careers and end up letting the country’s competitors benefit and take advantage of their exceptional skills. As a result, it is the US who loses these valuable skills when it is the one that provided them the training and knowledge.
“We are locked in a global competition for the world’s best talent. This is the competition that will separate the economic leaders from the laggards in the 21st century,” says Tom Donahue, President of the US Chamber of Commerce.
Currently, the concern of these high technology companies is that they are not able to find the right professionals for job vacancies. This is primarily because certain immigration laws are restrictive to the working visas issued to foreign workers with advanced technological knowledge.
These concerns are hopefully going to be addressed by the Greater Boston Chamber’s “Business For Skilled Worker Immigration”. Twenty five leading chambers of commerce in the country have come together to advance skilled worker immigration reform. This coalition is expected to drive job creation and innovation and promote overall economic growth.
There are three proposals from the coalition which are expected to be included by congress in the next congressional session. These primarily concern US visa application.
First proposal is for the skilled worker visa. It is aimed that the number of skilled worker visas that are approved will be increased to meet the demands of the labour market. Without this, companies will be forced to continue leaving positions unfilled.
Second one is concerned with the STEM graduate green cards. The STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) field is deemed a very important skill to the American economy today that is why it is being pushed for better US visa application process. With this proposal, it is expected that new permanent resident visas will be given to those students who graduate from any of the STEM courses from any US university. Considering that a great number of STEM graduates of PhD and master’s degrees are not American citizens, they may be forced to go somewhere else with their talents if this new proposal and information about US visa is not acted upon.
The third proposal is for entrepreneur visas as another US visa application option. This will give start up visas to immigrant entrepreneurs who have businesses in the US that provide employment and meet financial goals.
